my ex deleted my taste. an ai agent rebuilt it.

she left. so did 7,000 songs.

we split on a tuesday. by thursday, her spotify account merged into nothing, and the playlist she built over three years ... the one that soundtracked every drive, every argument, every quiet morning ... was gone. not deleted. just inaccessible. like the memories attached to it.

i did what any sane person does. i spiraled. i opened my library like a wound. every saved track was a timestamp. every artist a ghost.

so i did something drastic. i set an ai agent loose on my own account and told it to figure out what i actually liked. not what we liked. what i liked. independent of her. independent of the context we built together.

the audit was brutal

the agent did not care about my feelings. it analyzed my listening history, my saved albums, the songs i skipped, the ones i looped at 2am when i was alone. it mapped patterns i had never noticed.

turns out i only liked 40 percent of that playlist. the rest was hers.

that hit weird. i spent months grieving songs i did not even enjoy. i was mourning the idea of us, not the music. the agent did what no therapist could. it showed me the receipts.

it did not replace her. it replaced the vacuum.

here is where it got interesting. the agent did not just delete her influence. it went hunting.

the result was confusing at first. it felt like someone had read my diary and then set it to music. no ballads about longing. no acoustic breakups. just sharp, driving, weird, loud stuff i used to play before i met her.

it was me. pre-deal. pre-compromise. the version of me that did not know how to settle.

the real lesson was not musical

we think our taste is this sacred, personal thing. it is not. it is a negotiation. every relationship bends your algorithm. every shared account is a silent compromise. you listen to their guilty pleasures until they become yours. you hide your weird obsessions until you forget you had them.

an ai agent does not have a heart. it does not miss anyone. it just sees the numbers ... the patterns under the noise. and sometimes the coldest tool is the warmest mirror.

so, are we doing this again?

six months later, my library is bigger and stranger than it ever was with her. i found genres i did not know had names. i looped songs that made no sense to anyone but me. the agent archives everything i touch. it does not judge. it just builds.

the takeaway is not "delete your ex's stuff and hire a robot." it is sharper than that.

you are not defined by what you tolerated. you are defined by what you keep choosing when no one is watching. and sometimes you need a machine to show you what that is, because you have been too busy listening to everyone else to hear yourself.

my taste was never gone. it was just buried under the compromise. one agent, one audit, and it is louder than ever.

now if you will excuse me, i have 200 new tracks to ruin my hearing with.

stay in the orbit
